OUR THANKS TO ALL OF YOU

Greyhound Rescue of Idaho would like to thank all of our brave Americans who are
defending the Greyt United States of America!
We would also like to thank all of our own wonderful sponsors & volunteers whom have continued our fight to find homes for the noble and deserving greyhounds!  With out these people who give so freely, GRI and other groups like ours, would not be in existance!  With out these groups, countless greyhounds would have no place to go.  We love and appreciate each and everyone of you and thank you for your help and selfless giving!
This past year, we lost the dearest  pet we will ever have.  It has taken a toll on us & and our volunteers.  "Sweet Baby" went home to be with her Lord and Creator, on Jan. 29th, 2003.  We were privileged to have her with us for 9 years and 3 months, although it wasn't nearly long enough.  She was our "everything".  She was the beginning of GRI and the inspiration for the countless other greyhounds being rescued.  She will always be in our hearts and is indeed in our thoughts everyday.
We would like to thank all who shared with us flowers, gifts, cards, prayers & thoughts at this time.  It was one of our darkest hours, and  your caring was the only thing that made it bearable.  Again, thank you!

AMERICA! YOU ARE BEING FLEECED!
FIND OUT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOUR TAX DOLLARS!

Sunday, August 4th, I was asked to join in a debate on a radio station called Animal Talk hosted by Mark Honas.  The subject was "Greyhound racing". The debate was to be between Grey2K USA and the Greyhound Racing Association. Since I am on the advisory board of Grey2K and am one of the founders of Greyhound Rescue of Idaho, I accepted the invitation and looked forward to exposing in depth what the greyhound racing industry is all about.

Well, I knew we (Carey Theil, Pres. of Grey2K USA, Jill, Mark and myself) would be in hostile territory while debating with Ron Hevener and his crew from GRA, but I had no idea a talk show host about animals would also be hostile toward us and lean the debate towards the pro/greyhound racing side. I was a little taken back to say the least when Mark Honas used to his advantage the first 20 minutes of this 2 hour debate to Blast the Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA, Peta and the United States Government. I personally want to issue a challenge to all sponsors of this radio talk show to reconsider associating yourselves and your good name with someone so biased and uneducated in the issues which come to his program! He also made it a point more than once during the program to describe Grey2K Usa as animal rights activists and the Greyhound Racing Association as an animal welfare group. That was probably the biggest joke on his whole program for the week!! Since when, I ask you, has the greyhound racing industry ever cared about the greyhounds? Where did ALL the greyhounds go the first 50 to 60 years of greyhound racing in this country, before greyhound adoption became popular!? I am sure the greyhound racing industry was looking out for their welfare then as well as now, NOT!!!

But, even though anyone with any knowledge about greyhound racing knows that there is inherent cruelty involved, this statement alone covers a multitude of sins. However, many of you out there may not know the second BIGGEST problem with greyhound racing today is this: YOUR TAX DOLLARS ARE SUBSIDIZING ALMOST EVERY TRACK IN AMERICA AND EVERY YEAR THE GREYHOUND RACING INDUSTRY PAYS $1000'S OF DOLLARS FOR LOBBYISTS TO GO TO YOUR STATE LEGISLATURES TO ASK FOR MORE SUBSIDIES AND MORE GAMBLING ON THE GREYHOUND AND HORSE RACING TRACKS!! (such as slot machines, etc.) This dying sport is dying because of a strong public outcry to end the abuse and death of man's best friend, the gentle greyhound. Therefore, the greyhound racing industry is looking for ways to keep it's bloodsport going. I urge you, even if you don't care about animals, even if you bet on the greyhounds, you should understand that you are paying to do so before you even enter the parking lot of a track. If you live in a greyhound racing state or a state that simulcasts greyhound racing, call or write to your state legislators today and tell them NO MORE USING MY TAX DOLLARS TO SUBSIDIZE THIS BLOODSPORT! I have heard some say, "Let's let greyhound racing die on it's own", but I say one better, "Let's help kill it today!" Greyhound racing is made up of people who are greed ridden AND who have NO conscience where the animals are concerned. These are hardly people who are animal welfare oriented. I believe in calling a spade a spade, they want all of us to pay for their dying industry and I for one, along with thousands have stood up to them with a resounding, "NO!"

And, just in case Mark Honas from Animal Talk radio reads this, the definition for activist is:
"Someone who takes action".

We have taken action for a cause we believe in and because we care gravely for the welfare of the greyhounds!
